National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) students of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) achieved brilliant results at the 15th Computer Olympiad, amassing four gold and two silver medals.This record is the best ever accomplished result in this contest for both NDHU and Taiwan.
The performance of our students is very encouraging.they demonstrated the competitiveness of CSIE students," said Professor Shi-Jim Yen, mentor of the award winning team.The Computer Olympiad is an annual international event in which contestants develop computer programs to compete against each other.It has 21 games including Chess, Chinese Chess and Go.This year, it was held from September 24 to October 2, 2010 in Kanazawa, Japan, with 132 teams coming from universities and research institutes of 15 countries.
CSIE has been engaged in game design and development for ten years.With the endeavor of interested students and faculty members, the department has built a solid foundation in this area.Other than the award winning games, it has also developed Mahjong, Fantan, Slither, Sudoku, Go, etc., a total of more than 20 systems.CSIE students participate in the contest every year and take this as an opportunity of academic exchange with other participants.
